Road Safety - Saving Lives

We take road safety very seriously.  Hi-Desert Water District crews attended flagger safety training in the month of September. This training furthers our commitment to maintaining a safe working environment for our workers and roadway for travelers.

Roadway accidents can affect everyone on the road. Construction workers who work in the roadway are at greater risk of injury or death due to unsafe driving.

Driving and traveling by car is a very important part of our lives. We travel to work, school, the grocery store, the doctor's office, and for recreation, etc. Often it seems everyone is in a hurry. It is easy to become rushed and forget the risk we take every time we get behind the wheel. It is good to remember, everyone on the roadway has an important destination.

We want you, your family and your friends to arrive at your destination safely.

Roadway collisions can be reduced and prevented if everyone takes the time to implement road safety measures that begin with maintaining a safe vehicle, allowing more time to travel, driving only while alert-without impairment and distractions, slowing down and following road rules. Please drive with more patience, care, and caution.

We care about the safety of our workers and everyone on the road.  For more driving safety tips visit https://www.nhtsa.gov/ten-tips-for-safe-driving

Fall Water Savings Tips

  1. Adjust Your Irrigation Schedule
As temperatures drop and days get shorter, plants need less water. Reduce the frequency and duration of your watering schedule.
  2. Check for Leaks
Inspect outdoor faucets, hoses, and irrigation systems for leaks before winter. Fixing leaks now prevents water waste.
  3. Mulch Garden Beds
Add a layer of mulch around trees, shrubs, and flower beds. Mulch helps retain soil moisture and reduces the frequency of watering.
  4. Collect Rainwater
Set up rain barrels to collect rainwater from gutters. Use this water for your garden and outdoor plants.
  5. Water Early in the Day
Watering in the morning reduces evaporation and allows plants to absorb moisture before the heat of the day and cooler nighttime temperatures.
  6. Let Your Lawn Go Dormant
Many grasses naturally slow their growth in the fall. Allow your lawn to go dormant and reduce watering accordingly.
  7. Plant Drought-Tolerant Species
Fall is a great time to plant. Choose native or drought-resistant plants that require less water.
  8. Sweep, Don’t Hose
Use a broom to clean driveways, sidewalks, and patios instead of hosing them down.
  9. Cover Pools and Water Features
Use covers to reduce evaporation from pools, fountains, and ponds when not in use.
  10. Monitor Weather Forecasts
Skip watering if rain is in the forecast. Take advantage of natural precipitation.
