About Your Wastewater Treatment Facility

Located on the east side of Yucca Valley on Sunnyslope near La Contenta Road, the Wastewater Treatment Plant uses membrane technology, mechanical solids drying, odor control, and tertiary treatment with ultraviolet disinfection. The treated water is discharged to onsite percolation ponds, where the earth completes the final filtration process as it recharges the eastern Warren groundwater basin. The plant was built to treat up to 1.6 million gallons per day. Currently, it treats an average of 700,000 gallons per day.  In April 2025, the plant reached the 1 billion gallons of water treated since inception.

In addition, the district operates the wastewater collection system serving the Phase 1 area of Yucca Valley.

The Regional Water Quality Control Board resolution (Resolution R7-2011-004) identifies the Town of Yucca Valley as a top priority for eliminating the use of septic systems. The resolution led to an amendment to the Regional Board's Water Quality Control Basin Plan which was adopted on May 19, 2011, and imposed a three-phased septic tank prohibition on new and existing septic systems within the Town.

Sewer System Management Plan

The State of California requires publicly owned sanitary sewer systems to develop and implement a Sewer System Management Plan (SSMP), including measures to control and mitigate sewer spills. The District maintains and periodically audits and updates its SSMP pursuant to the State requirements.
